HEIMAT BERLIN is the Youth Museum’s model project. Together with children, teenagers, parents and anyone else who is interested, we are on the search for the city‘s migration background.

HEIMAT BERLIN wants to rouse the curiosity of children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 14 about the life-stories of other people while at the same time encouraging them to ask questions about their own family-history.

HEIMAT BERLIN offers education and theatre workshops where students can learn about why people left their homelands, how it was for them to begin anew somewhere else, and how the »natives« reacted. We display the results with workshop presentations in the Youth Museum.

At the end of HEIMAT BERLIN, visitors will find a reconceived »VILLA GLOBAL«, our intercultural exhibition. The project gives children and adolescents the chance to participate in getting it ready and to include their own ideas.

The model project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) Program »TOLERANZ FÖRDERN – KOMPETENZ STÄRKEN«.
